L. James (Jim) Pickett, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away Thursday, September 6th peacefully in his sleep after an extended battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Jim is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Pickett and his sister, Margaret (Maggie) Fansler. He is survived by his siblings Everett Pickett, Jr. (Sandy) and Betty Pickel, his children, Martin (Pam) Pickett, Karen (John) Rang, David (Amy) Pickett, his grandchildren, Matthew Pickett, Cendel Thompson (Jason), Eric Corder, Brian May, Autumn (Nic) Powell, Nicholas Bault, Lauren Anderson, Bowen Pickett, Maya Pickett and his great grandchildren, Mason Stringer, Nolan Thompson, Emerson Thompson and Primrose Powell and his nieces Kelly (Randy) Nichols, Terry (Art) Cauldwell, Wendy Pickett, Samantha Pickett, and nephew, Christopher Pickett.
Jim was raised in Indianapolis and surrounding counties. He joined the Air Force on his 18th birthday and served our country for 8 years. Most of his post military career was spent in sales. An avid lover of all thing’s cars, Jim was proud of the many cars he owned. He loved his family and friends as much as he did cars and enjoyed traveling with them to sunny beaches. He will be most remembered for his kindness, generosity and his patriotism. While ALS took from him his body it could not hinder his spirit.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor on Sunday, October 14th, 3:00 p.m. at Garfield Park Pagoda where all are welcome to come and share stories and a time of fellowship.
Donations can be made to the ALS Association, the DAV or a local animal shelter in honor of him.
Lindsey says
I am so sorry to hear of the death of Jim. The passing away of a loved one is always with much sorrow. May we have faith and confidence in the Bible’s promise of a time when pain, sickness and death are a thing of the past (Revelation 21:3, 4). My condolences are with the family at this difficult time.
